Position Summary
The Marketing & Events Coordinator leads the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce marketing, communications, and event strategies in support of its mission of Strengthening businesses to grow lasting community impact. As a key member of the Chamber team, the Marketing & Events Coordinator is responsible for developing and executing marketing initiatives, managing Chamber events, overseeing publications and external communications, and ensuring a consistent and professional organizational brand. This individual is expected to monitor performance metrics, evaluate results, identify opportunities for improvement, and proactively recommend new strategies and directions that advance the Chamber's mission and organizational goals. The successful candidate will approach all marketing, communications, and event efforts through the lens of business impact, ensuring Chamber resources are aligned with initiatives that strengthen businesses, encourage investment, support entrepreneurship, and contribute to a strong and vibrant business climate. Because the Chamber operates in a collaborative small-office environment, this role also provides administrative support and assists with day-to-day operations as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications

  1. Develop and implement marketing campaigns to promote Chamber programs, events, and membership.
  2. Manage the Chamber's social media platforms and create engaging content.
  3. Manage all Chamber publications and external communications.
  4. Design and distribute email newsletters, promotional materials, and digital communications.
  5. Update and maintain the Chamber website with current information and event details.
  6. Coordinate photography, videography, and storytelling to showcase Chamber members and activities.
  7. Maintain brand consistency across all communications and marketing materials.
  8. Track marketing metrics and recommend strategies to increase engagement and reach.
Event Planning & Coordination
  1. Plan, organize, and execute Chamber events including networking functions, ribbon cuttings, annual meetings, fundraisers, educational programs, and signature events.
  2. Coordinate event logistics including venues, vendors, sponsors, registrations, volunteers, and timelines.
  3. Oversee event setup, on-site coordination, and post-event evaluations.
  4. Identify opportunities to improve attendee experience and event efficiency.
Membership & Community Engagement
  1. Build positive relationships with Chamber members, community partners, volunteers, and local businesses.
  2. Support member recognition initiatives and community outreach efforts.
Administrative Support
  1. Provide general administrative assistance including answering phones, greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, and maintaining office organization.
  2. Assist with data entry, records management, mailings, and database updates.
  3. Support financial processes such as processing registrations and maintaining event records.
  4. Prepare reports, meeting materials, and other documents as requested.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and operations of the Chamber.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Business, Public Relations, Hospitality, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  4. Experience with social media management and digital marketing platforms.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools is preferred.
  6. Strong customer service skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  7. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for Chamber events.
  8. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
