Business Topics at 12: Grants 101
Join the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce for our next Business Topics at 12 session, where we're tackling one of the most common questions we hear from small business owners: "How do I get a grant?"
The honest answer is that no single source has the full picture, grant knowledge is scattered across a handful of local organizations, each holding a different piece of the puzzle. This roundtable brings those perspectives together in one room, so you leave with a clearer map of what's really available, whether it's worth pursuing, and who to talk to next.
We'll cover:
- What grant programs actually exist locally — and how competitive they are
- Common eligibility requirements and reasons applications get turned down
- Small, accessible opportunities you may not know about (like downtown/facade improvement grants)
- What goes into writing a strong, fundable application
- Whether chasing a grant is actually worth the time and effort — and when it isn't
- Where to turn if you don't know where to start
Panelists bring perspective from:
- Wilkes EDC
- Wilkes Community College Small Business Center
- Wilkes Community College Grants Office
- North Wilkesboro Historic Downtown Partnership
